Carlson, originally from Long Beach, Calif., was a graduate of the Juilliard School.
His Broadway debut came in 2003, when he appeared in Edward AlbeesThe Goat or Who Is Sylvia.
He would later star inTartuffeandThe Miracle Worker, alongside Academy Award winner Hilary Swank.
Carlson was also known for his role as 80s British pop star named Marilyn inTaboofrom 2003-2004.
