No financial terms were given by the league, which announced the move in a terse press release.
In 2020, the NFL signed a new collective bargaining agreement with league players.
That agreement has an opt-out in 2027, which could coincide with the expiration of Goodells new pact.

The contract includes clauses for succession or another extension, the Associated Press reported.
Goodell began his stint with the league as an administrative intern for then-Commissioner Pete Rozelle.
