Buttafuoco is set to replaceRoberto Cicuttoafter being appointed by Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano of Italys right-wing coalition government.
He will take up the post when Cicuttos run comes to an end in March 2024.
He is considered a maverick thinker.

Historically, the strength of the Biennale has been being a great instrument of freedom.
Cicutto has been in post since 2020, when he was installed by the previous left-wing government.
A La Biennale confirmed Buttafuocos appointment but noted the foundation does not make the appointment itself.
